Valle di Comino slalom debuts with 42 entries in Ciociaria
The inaugural Slalom Valle di Comino, a national ACI Sport event, takes place on 27 September on mountain roads in Frosinone province, Italy, with 42 competitors across multiple categories including prototypes, touring cars, and historic vehicles.
The first edition of the Slalom Valle di Comino will launch on Sunday, 27 September, on the winding roads of Ciociaria in the Frosinone province. The event, organised by Ianni Rent and Basilicata Motorsport, brings together 42 competitors—including ten in the touring car category—for a 2,950-metre course laid out on the Strada Provinciale 94 del Comino near San Donato. The race counts as the eleventh round of the 23rd Challenge Interregionale 26.
Among the favourites is Saverio Miglionico, the 2017 Italian Slalom Champion from Basilicata, who will start with number 1 on his Osella PA21 4C (E2SC 2000 class). He is using the event as preparation for the final round of the Italian Slalom Championship the following week in Salerno. The Palumbo family will also contend for the overall title: Domenico in his Radical SR4 Suzuki and his father Giuseppe in an Osella PA21 with a Japanese engine. Other notable entries include Giuseppe Miola on a Viali, Rocco Torti on a Chiavenuto, and Angelo Faraone on a Radical Prosport, all Suzuki-powered. Antonio Morali from Civitavecchia will compete in a Formula Gloria, while two Kart Cross vehicles driven by Giovanni Cutro and Luca Calace will add spectacle.
The E2 Silhouette class features Giovanni Piccolo in a Fiat 600, Maurizio Pepe in an Fiat X1/9, and Riccardo Di Veronica from Boville Ernica, who finished second at the Colledara slalom the previous Sunday. In the E1 Italia group, Jessica Scarafone, the 2021 Italian Slalom Champion in the ladies' cup, will drive her Citroën AX with a Suzuki engine. The largest entry list is in the N group, where Peugeot 106 drivers Niki Icuchi and Emanuele Pace from Basilicata will renew their rivalry, joined by Gianluigi Petrone from Molise in a similar car.
Racing Start Plus will see Peugeot 106 entries from Stefano Mitro (Molise) and Domenico Laviano (Basilicata) face off against Gregorio Fernicola in a Citroën Saxo. Paola Pepe from Basilicata will compete as the second female driver in the Racing Start category, alongside Natalio Ostuni in a Peugeot 106. Historic cars will be represented by Pio Giuliano and Carmine Urgo, both from Basilicata, in Peugeot 106s. Solo entries include Raffaele Pagano (Fiat 500), Christian Fedeli (Renault Clio Williams), and Francesco Scrocca (Fiat X1/9). Ten competitors will take part in the Regularity Touring Slalom category, with Annapaola Torti, an experienced driver from Frosinone, leading the field.
Procedures begin on Saturday, 26 September, with vehicle arrivals and technical checks at the municipal delegation in Atina from 14:30 to 20:00. An afternoon event, "Women in Motorsport: a feminine encounter," will feature prominent female motorsport personalities. On Sunday, the driver briefing starts at 8:30, followed by a reconnaissance lap at 9:15 and three timed runs through the course's hairpins, chicanes, and gates until approximately 15:30. Prize-giving will take place 30 minutes after the final run in Piazza Libertà, San Donato val di Comino. The event is supported by the Lazio Region, Frosinone Province, local municipalities, and is part of celebrations marking the centenary of the Automobile Club Frosinone.
