Palumbo wins inaugural Valle di Comino hillclimb

Domenico Palumbo of Lucera, Puglia, has written his name into the inaugural honours list of the Slalom Valle di Comino, a national ACI Sport hillclimb that took place on 27 September on the winding roads of Ciociaria in the Frosinone province. Competing for Scuderia Vesuvio in a Radical SR4 Suzuki, Palumbo set the fastest time of 2'04.20 over the 2,950-metre course on the third run to secure the overall victory.

Saverio Miglionico of Pignola finished second in an Osella PA21 4C Honda, 8.18 seconds adrift. Despite posting the fastest time in every run, Miglionico was penalised for knocking down a cone, which cost him the win. Giuseppe Palumbo, father of the victor, completed the podium in another Osella with a Suzuki engine.

The event also served as the eleventh round of the 23rd Challenge Interregionale Slalom by Basilicata Motorsport. Riccardo Di Veronica of Frosinone took fourth overall and won the E2 Silhouette class in a Fiat X1/9. Giovanni Piccolo claimed fifth in an E2 Silhouette Fiat 600 Suzuki, while Antonio Morali of Civitavecchia won the E2SS single-seater class in a Formula Gloria.

In the N-class category, Niki Icuchi of Potenza dominated with a Peugeot 106, ahead of Emanuele Pace and Gianluigi Petrone. Domenico Laviano won the Racing Start Plus class in a Peugeot 106, with Natalio Ostuni of Fasano taking the Racing Start series victory, also in a 106. Paola Pepe of Potenza won the women's classification in a Citroën Saxo.

The inaugural event was organised by Ianni Rent in collaboration with Basilicata Motorsport and supported by the municipalities of Atina and San Donato Valle di Comino. It received patronage from the Lazio Region, Frosinone Province, and the local community, and formed part of celebrations marking the centenary of the Automobile Club Frosinone.
