Carmelo Coviello Claims Victory at Slalom Coppa Citta di Tito
Carmelo Coviello steered his Osella PA 21 S Suzuki to overall victory at the 7th Slalom Coppa Citta di Tito, the finale of the ACI Sport Trofeo Centro Sud.
Carmelo Coviello secured outright victory at the 7th edition of the Slalom Coppa Citta di Tito, which also served as the 2nd Trofeo Lady by Basilicata Motorsport. The event marked the concluding round of the 2026 ACI Sport Trofeo Centro Sud, featuring an increased coefficient of 1.5, as well as the 12th round of the 23rd Challenge Interregionale CPB. A field of 102 competitors tackled the 2,800-meter asphalt hill course lined with 14 chicane slowdowns, running from the town of Tito toward the ancient Satriano tower.
Driving an Osella PA 21 S Suzuki for Scuderia Progetto Corsa, Coviello set the benchmark with an untouchable time of 2:01.56 during the second heat. The result saw him reclaim the top step on the Tito course after previous victories had slipped away in 2024 and 2025, returning him to the winner's circle he previously topped in 2023.
Angelo Faraone captured second place overall in a Radical SR4, trailing Coviello by 6.97 seconds after a strong final run in heat three. Giovanni Piccolo rounded out the podium aboard a Fiat 600 Proto. Local contender Alessandro Lovallo missed out on a podium finish due to a displaced cone penalty in the third run, which dropped his Radical SR4 to seventh overall. Fabiano Di Cesare took fourth place in a Fiat 126 Proto, followed by Giuseppe Palumbo (Radical SR4 Suzuki) and Domenico Caputo (Fiat Dallara E2SS). Kart cross entries also featured in the top ten, with Giovanni Cutro placing eighth on a GMN and Luca Calace ninth aboard a Kamikaz.
In the category classifications, newly crowned Italian slalom champion Paola Pepe won the Trofeo Lady, finishing ahead of Antonella Giosa (Peugeot 106), while her father Maurizio Pepe placed tenth overall driving a Fiat X 1/9. Gennaro Alfano led the E1 Italia division in a Fiat 500 Sporting, Roberto Telesca secured the Speciale Slalom win in a Fiat 127, and Antonio Scrocca ran solo in his Fiat X 1/9 prototype. Group N went to event co-founder Niki Icuchi (Peugeot 106), Racing Start Plus to Antonio Germano (Peugeot 106 1.2), and Bicilindriche to Raffaele Pagano (Fiat 500). Natalio Ostuni topped the standard Racing Start class in a Peugeot 106, while Gerardo Giuliano took historic honors in a Peugeot 106 R.1.3. In the slalom regularity classification, Felice and Antonio Mallano took top honors aboard a Mini Cooper.
