Salvatore Catanzaro Claims Sixth Consecutive Victory at 31st Autoslalom Citta di Misilmeri
Salvatore Catanzaro secured his sixth consecutive slalom win of the season aboard a Gloria B5 Evo Suzuki at the 31st Autoslalom Citta di Misilmeri in Sicily.
Salvatore Catanzaro continued his winning streak by taking overall victory at the 31st Autoslalom Citta di Misilmeri – Memorial Luca Cerniglia, marking his sixth consecutive triumph of the season. Behind the wheel of his Gloria B5 Evo Suzuki, Catanzaro edged out fierce competition across the 2.990-kilometre course on the SP38 linking Misilmeri and Belmonte Mezzagno.
The event, organised by Misilmeri Racing and counting toward the Trofeo Sud Slalom AciSport, Sicilian Regional Championship, and Challenge degli Emiri, came down to the final runs after a dramatic shuffle caused by cone penalties. Catanzaro suffered 20-second and 10-second penalties during Heat 1 and Heat 2 respectively. In Heat 3, however, he set a clean benchmark of 138.04 points-seconds to snatch the top step of the podium.
Silvio Fiore finished in second position overall in his Aprilia-powered Radical SR4, trailing Catanzaro by just 0.85 seconds with a time of 138.89 despite enduring electronic gremlins and an early penalty in Heat 1. Local favourite Riccardo Cerniglia had led the classification until the final heat, but a late cone strike relegated his Bogani SN84 Suzuki to third place overall on 139.14. Cerniglia was nonetheless awarded the Memorial Luca Cerniglia trophy as the top-placed local driver.
Michele Poma finished fourth in a Radical SR4 Suzuki (139.46), followed by Nino Di Matteo in a Gloria C8F Evo Suzuki (144.55) and Gianni Carfi in sixth (145.69). Angelica Giamboi claimed victory in the female classification piloting her Fiat X1/9, while Flavio Catalano set the pace in the historic vehicle category aboard a Peugeot 205 Rallye.
