Catanzaro Dominates 5th Slalom Babbaurra Following Fiore Incident
Catanzaro claimed overall victory at the 5th Slalom Babbaurra in Caltanissetta driving a Gloria for Trapani Corse after early front-runner Silvio Fiore retired.
The fifth edition of the Slalom Babbaurra – Caltanissetta brought competitors together on the SS 1222 road course. Measuring 2,590 meters and slowed by 11 chicane stations, the stage challenged drivers over three competitive runs, counting toward the Automobile Club Caltanissetta Club Championship, the Regional Slalom Championship, and the Coppa di Zona.
A total of 39 competitors passed administrative and technical checks to take the start. Silvio Fiore initially set the benchmark during reconnaissance in his Radical and continued that form by leading the opening heat ahead of Catanzaro and local driver Carfì. However, an off-road excursion during the second run ended Fiore's day prematurely without injury.
Following Fiore's retirement, Catanzaro dominated the remainder of the event aboard a Gloria entered by Trapani Corse to take the outright win. Despite his withdrawal, Silvio Fiore secured second place in the overall classification, helping Puntese Corse take the teams' prize. In the historic category, Gianluca Sciortino prevailed at the wheel of a Renault Clio, followed by Luca Bellia and Fabio Cardella.
