Bostjan Avbelj Wins 11th Rally Colline Metallifere-Pomarance as Campedelli Seals IRC Title
Slovenian driver Bostjan Avbelj dominated the 11th Rally Colline Metallifere-Pomarance, while third-place finisher Simone Campedelli secured the International Rally Cup championship.
Slovenia's Bostjan Avbelj and co-driver Damian Andreika steered their Team MS Munaretto Skoda Fabia RS to victory at the 11th edition of the Rally Colline Metallifere-Pomarance, marking the first time in the event's history that an international crew has claimed overall victory. Organized by MaremmaCorse 2.0 with the support of ACI Pisa, the rally spanned two days and ten special stages, totaling nearly 65 competitive kilometers across the roads of Alta Val di Cecina.
Avbelj took control of the leaderboard from Saturday's opening test and built a decisive advantage over the field. Early pursuer Giuseppe Di Palma crashed out on stage four in his Skoda, leaving Gianandrea Pisani and Simone Campedelli to battle for the remaining podium places. Pisani and co-driver Bracchi (Skoda) mounted a late push to take second overall and clinch the IRC Challenge title, edging ahead of Campedelli and Tania Canton aboard their factory Toyota GR Yaris.
Campedelli's measured drive to third position proved more than sufficient to wrap up the International Rally Cup title. Behind the podium finishers, Rudy Michelini and Nicola Angilletta took fourth place in another Skoda Fabia RS to seal second in the IRC Challenge standings, followed by Antonio Rusce and Pietro Ometto in fifth after a steady charge from seventh early on.
Marcello Razzini and Carlo Alberto Senigagliesi placed sixth and seventh respectively, while Niccolò Ardizzone and Alessandro Scartabelli finished 12th overall and top among the two-wheel-drive competitors in a Lancia Ypsilon Rally4. In the concurrent 6th Historic Rally Pomarance, Lio Tommi and Roberto Ricci dominated from the start to take the win in an Alfa Romeo 33 4x4 over Nicola Guertrini's Ford Sierra Cosworth 4x4.
