Staniszewski fifth in FIA CEZ rallycross round at Nyírád

Zbigniew Staniszewski finished fifth in the final of the sixth round of the FIA Central European Zone rallycross championship at Nyírád, Hungary, driving a Ford Fiesta SC. The Polish driver from Olsztyn competed in a record-sized field of 18 cars in the top supercars class.

Staniszewski qualified fourth and advanced to the final as runner-up in his semi-final, but was unable to match the pace of four rivals in the main event. The Hungarian circuit proved demanding, with 50% gravel and 50% asphalt surface, and aggressive racing from the home contingent. The field included primarily Hungarian drivers competing in their national championship, alongside Ales Fucik of the Czech Republic in a Volkswagen Polo, the championship's closest challenger.

With two rounds remaining in the season, Staniszewski holds 150 points in the FIA CEZ standings, leading Ales Fucik (91 points), Istvan Antal (61 points), Gerald Eder (51 points) and Alois Holler (46 points). The Polish driver is targeting his seventh consecutive CEZ title. The next round takes place in Poznań on the first weekend of October, followed by a final event at Slovakiaring near Bratislava.
