Gran Turismo Sport Made Playable on PC via Unofficial RyGT Project

A new community project has successfully made Gran Turismo Sport playable on Windows PCs, with work also underway on Gran Turismo 7.

A community developer known as mlgprorektm8 has made Gran Turismo Sport playable on Windows computers through an unofficial project dubbed RyGT. Rather than relying on traditional PlayStation 4 console emulation, the project adapts the game's code to run natively on PC hardware by replacing console system calls with custom runtime libraries. Graphical output is handled by shadGT, a Vulkan-based renderer incorporating solutions from the ShadPS4 translation project.

At its current stage of development, the project supports menus, in-game driving, full audio, and external controller input. Online functionality remains unavailable. Running the title requires decrypted game assets alongside PlayStation 4 firmware files.

Performance varies depending on hardware specifications and vehicle counts on track, typically delivering between 42 and 60 frames per second. The implementation includes AMD FSR 3.1 frame generation support, which can significantly raise the displayed frame rate—in one recorded test, a baseline 57 FPS reached 115 FPS. Because Gran Turismo Sport does not export native motion vectors, frame generation can introduce motion blur and visual artifacts around object edges and UI elements during fast movements. The developer recommends maintaining a baseline of at least 40 FPS to minimize visual degradation.

Work is also reported to be underway on bringing the PlayStation 4 release of Gran Turismo 7 to PC using a similar methodology, though no timeline has been established for when it will reach a playable state. With Sony's flagship racing franchise remaining exclusive to PlayStation hardware, RyGT marks a notable milestone for PC sim racing enthusiasts seeking access to the series.
