Polish Hillclimb Series halted by crashes at Sopot-Gdynia round

Saturday's eleventh round of the Polish Mountain Car Championship, held as part of the 29th Grand Prix Sopot-Gdynia, was marked by multiple incidents on track that forced organisers to halt competition several times. The final decision of the round has been postponed to Sunday.

Training runs proceeded smoothly until a coolant leak in the service park delayed the second practice session by several minutes. In the opening practice, Sebastian Stec set the fastest time of 1:24.700, with Bartłomiej Madziara (Lamborghini Huracán) second at 1:28.706 and Romek Baran (Mitsubishi Lancer) third at 1:29.303. The second practice session saw Stec and Madziara separated by just 0.2 seconds, both posting times around 1:26, with Jakub Kozioł third at 1:27.094.

The first competitive run was interrupted after Natalia Kluza struck a barrier at marker 13, overturning and displacing the safety fence. A second incident saw Robert Twardowski (Honda Civic Miku) roll after hitting a barrier at a roundabout exit. Competitors were also forced to repeat runs twice due to spectators on the track. The first run concluded at 17:45. Jakub Kozioł won the run with 1:25.549, ahead of Sebastian Stec (1:25.8) and Konrad Wróbel (Ford Fiesta). In the historic class, Christian Zaleski (Porsche 911 SC 3.0) was fastest.

The second competitive run was abandoned after Michał Słaby crashed into a barrier near the roundabout, causing damage that could not be quickly repaired. The second run will be completed on Sunday, along with the twelfth round of the championship.
